Pathways in Torah Sheb’al Peh

The first series to be published in the Pathways in Torah program is Pathways in Torah Sheb’al Peh. This set begins with an introductory volume: Pathways in Torah Sheb’al Peh, by Shalom Hayman. This introductory volume puts Torah Sheb’al Peh into context, and explains the overall program of skills needed to learn it. Accompnaying this volume, we present a beautiful five-series set consisting of thirty booklets, organized in accordance with the overall Theory of the Bonayich program, as follows:

 

Series One: Introductory Skills in Torah Shebichtav: To learn Torah Sheb’al Peh, it’s first necessary to have some basic skills in Torah Shebichtav In this first series, there are five booklets:

► 1.1 Torah Shebichtav and Torah Sheb’al Peh
► 1.2 Torah Shebichtav: “M’gilah M’gilah Nitna” or “Chatumah Nitna”
► 1.3 Torah Shebichtav: Division Systems of the Text
► 1.4 Torah Shebichtav: Ta’amei haMikra: Mafsikim and M’Shartim
► 1.5 Torah Shebichtav: Peshat and D’rash

 

► Series 2 – Stage One Skills - Mishnah: After learning the above basic skills in Torah Shebichtav, it’s time to begin study of Torah Sheb’al Peh with the skills for learning the Mishnah of Rabbi Y’hudah HaNasi. In the second series, there are seven booklets:

► 2.1 Mishnah and Mikra
► 2.2 The Tannaitic period: Historical Background
► 2.3 The Structure of the Mishnah
► 2.4 Editing of the Mishnah: Gushim and Kevatzim
► 2.5 Mishnah Terminology and Styles
► 2.6 Revadim in Mishnah
► 2.7 Machalokot in Mishnah

 

► Series 3 – Stage Two Skills - Torat HaTannaim: After study of skills for Mishnah, it’s time to widen horizons, and learn about the skills required for learning the wider Tannaitic literature. In the third series, there are four booklets:

► 3.1 Mishnah and Tosefta
► 3.2 Mishnah and B’raita
► 3.3 Middot She’haTorah Nidreshet Bahen
► 3.4 Mishnah and Midr’she Halachah

 

► Series 4 – Torat Ha’Amoraim: After learning the skills for Mishnah and Torat HaTannaim, it’s time to move on to the literature of the Amoraim who followed the Tannaim, and learn the skills for study of their teachings. In the fourth series, there are six booklets:

► 4.2 Ma’aseh and Memra
► 4.3 Typologies of Memrot
► 4.4 The Natural Amoraic Sugya
► 4.5 The Edited Amoraic Sugya: Three Types

► Series 5 – Shakla V’Tarya: After learning the skills for Mishnah, Torat HaTannaim and Torat Ha’Amoraim, it’s time to enter the deep waters of the Shakla V’Tarya. In this fifth and last series, there are eight booklets:

► 5.1 Aramaic: Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives and Letter Equivalencies
► 5.2 Shakla V’Tarya as a Layer Unto Itself
► 5.3 Who Edited the Talmud?
► 5.4 Three Functions of Shakla V’Tarya in Amoraic Sugyot
