More and more Jewish adults are making personal commitments to the study of Torah – Tanach, Talmud, Midrash and Aggadah, Halachah, Jewish Faith and Thought, Jewish History, Chassidut and Kabbalah, and other Jewish Studies fields. Never in Jewish history has Torah been studied by so many Jewish adults! In addition, there is a burgeoning awakening to Jewish spiritual culture among the nations of the world. In the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Africa and the Far East, non-Jews by the tens of thousands are awakening to the priceless treasure that is Judaism.
This great blessing is accompanied by a severe problem: interested adults are limited to the study of Judaism through secondary literature, translations and interpretations of others. The result is that many individuals who desire a direct contact with the original sources – Tanach, Talmud, and the other sources in the original text – struggle to gain independent capabilities. Until now, there has been no effective, transparent and assessable way for adults to obtain the necessary learning skills for Jewish Studies subjects, so that they may become independent learners and thinkers in Jewish study.
Now – there is! The Pathways in Torah program is designed exactly for this purpose – to help high school students and adults learn HOW to learn, in any subject of Jewish Studies that interests them.
Pathways in Torah is organized into various study disciplines:
► Mikra (Tanach)
► Mishnah and Talmud
► Aggadah and Midrash
► Halachah
► Jewish Faith and Thought
► Jewish History
Each study discipline in Pathways in Torah is first presented in a full length volume which explains clearly and simply what the study discipline is all about. Then, to accompany the introductory volume, we present study booklets divided into Series and Units. Each unit is available in either English (including translations of the sources at the end of the booklet) or Hebrew, and deals with one specific learning skill that the learner can use in independent study. Each booklet includes presentation of the skill, examples and explanations, and practice in numerous sources so the learner can verify acquisition of the skill. The booklets are written in a layman’s English or Hebrew, in Open University style: presentation, questions, discussion and practice. Booklets are accompanied with answer keys if desired.
Even more, each subscriber to Pathways in Torah receives at no extra charge unlimited email access to the authors of the booklets – similar to the service that Professor Nechama Leibowitz of blessed memory gave to her thousands of students over the years – and the right to participate in internet broadcasts on the Bonayich channel.
Pathways in Torah for High Schools –
Jewish Studies in High Schools have always been a challenge to deliver in an interesting way. Yet more difficult is the issue of individualization, which has become critical in our period of computerized learning. The Pathways in Torah program is the perfect answer: using these booklets, High Schools can set up Bate Midrash in which students can proceed, each at their own pace, through the booklets. We provide assessments for each booklet, and teacher guidance materials for facilitators. See the costs of the individual components in our Product Catalogue, or in our Store, and write to us for prices for educational institutions, including our unique Staff Development program.
