V'Shinantam Mishnah Program

The program is very helpful, both in getting things organized and systematized, and in getting kids into Mishnah in an enjoyable way.

Re: V'Shinantam Mishnah Program

I like how i can allow some students to get ahead of others and still take part in the activities and group lessons. Yes the kids really understand the concepts and enjoy it too.

Rav Peretz, I think that it would be useful for the readers to understand the educational context of your remark. Would you feel comfortable explaining your work?  I think the advantage of the materials for your population is very interesting. Pinchas Hayman

Re: V'Shinantam Mishnah Program

You are right, my students are in a very unique position, although i think many classes share similar challenges. We are a school that services students with behavioral and emotional exceptionalities, which some would call special ed, but that would be generalizing and misleading. These students are often very smart and sensitive people, who need a program tailor made to their strengths and weaknesses. That is what i meant by students going ahead of others and still participating in group activities. Every student in my class has the ability to move at their own pace, even though we do have group activities and lessons. the materials aid in making deep concepts easy for students to understand and relate to. They develop an appreciation and excitement for learning new things instead of a dread of material that is too challenging for them.

Re: V'Shinantam Mishnah Program

Rav Peretz,

Thank you for your explanation, it was very helpful.  I think many teachers are aware that their class is really a collection of classes, as each child needs the ability to grow individually. What you do is actually a model for all teachers, whether of students with exceptional needs or not. Could you provide more information about exactly how you use V'Shinantam in the exceptional environment, what works more and what works less, etc?
