You are right, my students are in a very unique position, although i think many classes share similar challenges. We are a school that services students with behavioral and emotional exceptionalities, which some would call special ed, but that would be generalizing and misleading. These students are often very smart and sensitive people, who need a program tailor made to their strengths and weaknesses. That is what i meant by students going ahead of others and still participating in group activities. Every student in my class has the ability to move at their own pace, even though we do have group activities and lessons. the materials aid in making deep concepts easy for students to understand and relate to. They develop an appreciation and excitement for learning new things instead of a dread of material that is too challenging for them.
